I decided to try my hand at transforming a picture into a stained glass panel. This is the original picture I used for designing the panel.

Original Photo for the design

I import the image to my stained glass program and start my design. Adding personal touches to the design.

Design start

I get a total picture done and will contine to change it.

Design

This can at times be very complicated…Especially ears and eyes.

I then choose the glass for the project and get a simulation of what the panel will generally look like when completed.

Color design

The next step is the glass cutting and grinding. Though out this process, I make more changes. Typically because I have made a too dificult piece of glass to fit or because I don’t like the way it looks. With this panel, I eliminated a number of pieces that were very small and didn’t enhance the piece. After hours of foiling each piece of glass with copper, this is what it looks like.

Foiled

Finally, all soldered and framed, it is finished.

Jo, your process is fascinating. I am sure this is being received with great amounts of joy and pride tonight. It is an awesome piece of work!

Thank you! I am not sure when exactly it will be presented. It took many hours to complete this panel.
